He left for New York to study with Helen Hayes at the American Theater Wing and eventually moved from Broadway to Hollywood.  Everything you wanted to know about Goober (and then some)
Goober Pyle, born and raised in Mayberry, attended Mayberry High School and played on the football team. After high school Goober trained to be an auto mechanic in Raleigh. He served with the National Guard where he picked up using YO. He returned to Mayberry to work at Wally’s Filling Station for $1.25 an hour. Which he one day buys.  Goober can be described as innocent, almost childlike. He likes to ready comic books, play checkers, hunting and fishing. Goober is a man of many talents. He once won a pancake eating contest by eating 57 pancakes in one sitting. He also won an arm wrestling contest four years in a row and a turkey shoot in Mt. Pilot two years in a row. He can also do a mighty mean impression of Cary Grant!
Some of Goober’s favorites include: Corn on the cob, his favorite vegetable; favorite movie is The Monster That Ate Minnesota; his favorite toy is a Teddy Bear named Buster.
Over the years, Goober has owned many pets such as a skunk, a canary named Louise, and a dog named Spot, although the dog had no spots. In his spare time he hangs around the courthouse, chatting with sheriff Andy Taylor. Andy has deputized Goober on several occasions to help out in a pinch.
So the next time you’re in North Carolina, why don’t ya drop by and chew the fat and have a pop with Goober. He just loves to chit-chat!
