Andy Griffith is best known for his starring roles in two very popular TV series, "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock".
Andy  earned a degree in music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the 50s he was a featured regular on the Steve Allen Show and the Ed Sullivan Show. He was featured in the a Broadway play "No Time for Sergeants" (1955) for which he received a Tony nomination, and he later appeared in the film version.
On The Andy Griffith Show, Andy portrayed a small-town sheriff who shared simple light hearted wisdom with the characters around him. The show was one of the most popular TV series in history. It generated some successful spin-offs, and the original is still seen in re-runs to this day.
Andy created his own production company in 1972, which produced several movies and TV series. In 1981, he was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal in Murder in Texas. In 1983 Andy was stricken with Guillain-Barre syndrome, but he recovered after rehabilitation.  His most recent battle with health was a hip replacement surgery which he is recovering nicely.

Andy Taylor, born Andrew Jackson Taylor, is a widowed father to his son OpieTaylor and lives with his Aunt Bee who helps take care of Opie. He is both the sheriff and justice of the peace of Mayberry, North Carolina.  Andy was born and raised in Mayberry by his father and his Aunt Bee. He and his cousin and best friend, Barney Fife, grew up together and both graduated from Mayberry Union High.
Andy has a laid-back approach to law enforcement, making him an ideal sheriff for the sleepy town of Mayberry. He seems to have an understanding of the people of Mayberry, and regularly makes exceptions to the rules. Under his jurisdiction, Mayberry rarely sees much crime, with the notable exception of moonshining which seems to be quite prevalent.  Andy regularly uses reverse psychology on people when it is for their own good and seems to have a keen eye for dubious situations, and often tricks people into making the right decision or seeing their own mistakes.
Andy has had several love interests, including Ellie Walker, Mary Simpson, and Peggy.  His current love is his son Opie's school teacher, Helen Crump.  Helen and Andy eventually marry and have a son they name Andy Jr.
