Helen Crump / Aneta Corseaut
Actress Aneta Corseaut, born 03 November 1933, made her feature film debut appearing opposite young Steve McQueen and an oozy pile of goo in The Blob (1958). She subsequently played occasional leads and supporting roles in feature films and television. Fans of the nostalgic sitcom The Andy Griffith Show will recognize her as school teacher Helen Crump, longtime girlfriend of Mayberry sheriff Andy Taylor (Griffith). Other television roles include that of Nurse Bradley on House Calls during the late '70s and early '80s along with a recurring role on Andy's later hit series Matlock. Aneta had many guest appearances on shows including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Death Valley Days, Emergency and many others. She passed of cancer 06 November 1995.
Mrs Helen Crump Taylor, Andy's choice for a girlfriend,wife and mother for Opie. Helen was a school teacher that moved to town in 1963, the third season of the show. She was born in Kansas both in real life and on the show.
It is said the Helen's role was only temporary a one time shot but after working with her Andy felt so comfortable that he wanted her to have a recurring role as his regular gal.
Now of course Andy wasn't the only one in town that had eyes for Miss Helen Crump. Opie showed an interest in her, writing on the black board, buying her gifts and with the help of Barney he even resited poetry to her over the phone. Rodney Darling and Ernest T Bass also had eyes and declared their love for the lovely Miss Helen Crump.
Helen was also loved by Aunt Bee and Helen often encouraged Aunt Bee to strive for her Independence and take risk. With Helen's encouragement Aunt Bee learn not only to drive a car but fly a plane as well.
Andy and Helen celebrated their Marriage on the first episode of Mayberry R.F.D. they also had the joy of giving birth to Andy Taylor Jr on Mayberry R.F.D's second season.
